Installation - Striving for Significance

Prior to entering the space of the piece the viewer can hear violent noises. Once they go in the space it is clear that the sound is coming from the speakers. Upon further investigation, there is a sense of discovery when the viewer walks to the backside of the piece and the source of the menacing audio is revealed. The video is a tennis match of Venus and Serena Williams, edited only to the screams they make when striking the ball. Before the term Sibling Rivalry was coined, psychologist Alfred Adler saw the competitive relationship between brothers and sisters as "striving for significance" within the family.
