Installation - Figure Study
In this project I created an installation/ performance that emphasizes my interests in Figure Drawing. I noticed that one of my favorite parts of drawing the figure is actually in watching someone else translate what they see to paper. I am also fascinated in the sounds that I can't hear, more specifically the bodily sounds of the model. So in this piece I had the audience sit down with a close-up, live-feed projection of the drawing being made. While they watched the creation of the image, the model manipulated the sounds (generic breathing and heartbeat recordings) of the piece using a distortion pedal. The artist controlled the visual experience while the model controlled the audial experience. The audience could choose to watch the live performance or the mediated performance. The duration of the performance was approximately 10 minutes, in collaboration with Brent Cox (draftsman).
